The Power of 10% and How it can Change your Life Starting Now.
Time is FREE, BUT IT’S PRICELESS. You can’t own it, BUT YOU CAN USE IT. You can’t keep it, BUT YOU CAN SPEND IT. Once you’ve lost it, YOU CAN NEVER GET IT BACK.

Time: A unique system that ties together events, represents a form of measurement, and signifies an important moment or deadline.
We complain about needing more time and wished for the ability to slow it down or freeze it all together. In rare cases, you might encounter boring situations where speeding it up would be a time saver!
Regardless of how you view time, there is one thing for certain: It’s a free resource you can’t acquire more of. Eventually time will run out, and when it does, will you look back on your life and wish you had used it effectively?
Are You Where You Want to be in Life?
You have the ability to accomplish anything you put your mind too, however, sometimes doubt, insecurities, fear, or procrastination creep in, hindering your progress to move forward in life.
There are two simple steps you can take to overcome this vicious cycle: (1) learn to set realistic goals and (2) manage your time more effectively.
In this article, I am going to share a technique I use called “the power of 10%”. It’s a simple yet effective way to help you be more mindful of your time and when coupled with realistic goal setting, you will eliminate the negative feelings of:
- Doubt: “I don’t believe I can do it.”
- Insecurities: “I’m too old to start.”
- Fear: “I’m not ready.”
- Procrastination: “I will start tomorrow.”
Do You Have Time for 10%?
Do you feel stuck in a cycle unable to make forward progress in life? If I told you 10% could change your life, would you believe me? Lets break it down and see…
The power of 10%
There are 8,760 hours in a year. If you take 10% of that, you’re left with 876 hours. You might be thinking, “so what”. Let me explain further.
So out of the remaining 876 hours you get:
- 73 hours a month
- 17 hours a week
- 2.4 hours a day
So the question is, “how do you use your 10% a year or 2.4 hours a day?” Do you use that time to binge watch shows on Netflix, scan your social media accounts, YouTube, or read celebrity news?
Take a moment now to self-reflect. Do you see an opportunity to refocus your efforts towards accomplishing a lingering goal?
Transform Your Life With 2.4 Hours a Day
Do you have a transformative goal you want to accomplish this year? If so, do me a favor: Step 1, think about your goal and write it down. Step 2, identify opportunities where you can refocus your energy to free up 2.4 hours a daytowards achieving your goal. Step 3, invest in yourself.
Investing in Yourself
It is all about investing in yourself. Here are a few simple examples:
- When getting ready in the morning or sitting in traffic, listen to an audio book and learn something new
- Spend time working on your side project instead of vegging out on the computer or watching TV
- If you are going to take a trip, spend the money on a conference for a subject you are interested in
- Take a break from Happy Hour and head home, allocating time towards your personal milestones
Remember, you can use your 2.4 hours a day any way you want. 30 mins here, an hour there. The goal is to learn how to master your time eliminating waste. If you don’t control your time, others will and time will end up controlling you.
How Will You be Different this Year
What will you do with this information?
Will you continue to allow doubt, insecurities, fear, or procrastination hold you back or will you take control of your life by being diligent in the following:
- Set realistic goals
- Use the power of 10% to practice efficient time management
- Invest in yourself
Ask yourself what type of impact you want to make on your job, personal life, and relationships. I guarantee, if you use 10% of your time this year to focus on you, it will transform your life.
Take action now and get it done!
