The Fog

This morning I woke up to a gloomy sky.

As I watched the clouds slowly roll through, I was reminded of times I felt discouraged in life causing an overcast of bad vibes that blocked my joy.

Even now when I feel this way, I do the following to penetrate through the fog:

  1. Acknowledge My Feelings: I had to realize that it’s OK to be emotional or have a bad day. The first step towards mental change is to realize you are not feeling 100%. When this happens, I stop, find a quiet place, and just breathe.
  2. Realize I am in Control: Negative feelings can be trigged by various factors. When this happens I have a choice to let the situation bother me or not? I remind myself that I am ALWAYS in control and not to give up my power for short term gratification.
  3. Move on and let it go: When I hold on to negative feelings, my frustrations turn into resentment. I realized it took more energy to stay angry then it did to free myself from emotional baggage. I choose to be the better person, by taking the higher road and letting go.

We always have our cloudy days, but if we are able to acknowledge our feelings, keep our emotions in check, while letting go of negative thoughts, the sun will burn through the fog giving you rays of hope for a brighter day.
